January news not blues

15 January, 2020 - Rosie Dalton

Happy New Year- here’s hoping everyone hasn’t broken too many New Year resolutions so far?

January is flying by and at Daltons Dairy we have already put in place exciting plans for 2020. There will be changes and fresh faces with the ice cream and new attractions for the Spring. One of the developments has involved phone calls to New Zealand, exchange rates and freight taxes! Keep following us for updates and news of the launch.

We love hearing from our customers and following on from feedback in our Honesty Shop, we are in the process of completing a farm/nature trail around the farm, starting from the car park at the shop. The short walk will aim to show the history, wildlife and farming at Shawcroft Farm. For the serious walkers, we also have many public footpaths in Wootton and amazing views from the Weaver Hills. And finish off your trip enjoying an ice cream from our quirky little shop.

In the farming calendar, January for us is a time of preparation for the start of calving next month. The calf shed will be set up, feeders and equipment checked. Stock takes and protocols sorted and animal health checks undertaken. There is a great anticipation at this time of year for all the new calves and thoughts of Spring and the cows going out to graze. Let’s hope we aren’t being lulled into a false sense of ‘spring is in the air’ with these mild, sunny days presently?
